SGT SLICK – “GIMME! GIMME! GIMME!” MUSIC VIDEO BTS

They say the most memorable moments in life always come at the most unexpected times. The same can be said about career opportunities too.

With one foot out the door and our mind’s completely hyper-focused on preparing for a series of events at our first ever Mardi Gras in Sydney, MCL Productions was asked at the last minute to design and execute a set design for the concept behind the music video for Sgt Slick’s latest summer remix hit that was already smashing streaming records.

The concept for the shoot was a talent show featuring local drag queen’s Polly Filla, Misty Pical, Fembox XYZ plus a few others, to be judged by no other than Sgt Slick himself, accompanied by some familiar Poof Doof faces.

The space itself (known as ‘The Moser Room at Chasers Nightclub) provided the perfect base and lighting solution for the concept, while the custom drapes and handmade signage finished off the set just as we pictured it in our heads.

A little last-minute ingenuity and some late-night crafts lead us to the creation of the backdrop and the judging cards.

After we set the room, we cranked the aircon and closed the door behind us out of respect for the queens due for arrival in a few hours time.

We spent the majority of the time while filming on set working as a bartender for the queens and distributing smoke into the shot as necessary to ensure the dive bar element was present.

We had less than 48 hours to pack our bags and be in Sydney for the first event setup however, needless to say, we couldn’t wipe the smile off our faces.
